Fishing Adventure at Lake Oahe: A Journey with Fish Lake Co
Nestled in the heart of North Central South Dakota, Lake Oahe offers some of the best fishing in North America. This fall, the Fish Lake Co crew embarked on an unforgettable trip to these renowned waters, targeting walleye under the guidance of local expert Gabe Outtrim, owner of New Evarts Resort.
Setting the Scene
As we arrived at Lake Oahe, we were greeted by stunning vistas and the crisp air of mid fall. The beautiful shores of Lake Oahe painted a vibrant backdrop for our fishing expedition, and the weather was nothing short of perfect. With temperatures fluctuating between 50 to 80 degrees throughout the day, we relied on our Fish Lake Co gear to keep us comfortable. Fishing with the Best
Gabe Outtrim, a seasoned guide with a lifetime of experience on these waters, welcomed us to New Evarts Resort. His extensive knowledge of the local fish patterns and techniques set the stage for a successful fishing experience. As we set out on Gabe’s Ranger 622FS, he shared his insights into the walleye population in Lake Oahe and the best tactics for catching them.
We deployed various crank baits on the steep ledge of the main river channel, and it didn’t take 10 minutes before the action started. With the combination of Gabe’s expertise and passion for fishing, we quickly began to put together a box of keeper size walleye and multiple fish over the 20” mark, biggest measuring 25 ½” in the boat. Each catch was a testament to the bountiful waters of Lake Oahe and the thrill of angling in such a picturesque location.
The Experience
Aside from the incredible fishing, boating between 80 to 90 fish, the camaraderie was truly special. Sharing stories, laughter, and the fishing stories made our time on the water even more enjoyable. The evenings spent at New Evarts Resort were equally rewarding, where we swapped fishing stories and celebrated our catches over cocktails and dinner at New Evarts Resort Steakhouse & Bar.
The versatility of our Fish Lake Co gear played a key role in our comfort throughout the trip. Whether it was our moisture-wicking shirts during the day or insulated jackets for the cooler evenings, we were always prepared for whatever Mother Nature threw our way.
